About Nathalia
Nathalia is a town in the Shire of Moira in northern Victoria, on the banks of Broken Creek and the Murray Valley Highway, about 42 km from Shepparton and 56 km from Echuca. The area was home to the Yorta Yorta people before being settled as the Kotupna pastoral station in 1843 and subdivided for closer settlement in 1869. Richard Blake took up the townsite in 1875 and built a sawmill and flour mill, and the village was gazetted in 1880; the railway arrived in 1888 and a butter factory opened in 1895. Nathalia lies a short drive from Barmah National Park, the world's largest redgum forest.
