About Nanneella

Nanneella is a village in the Rochester Irrigation District of Victoria, east of the Campaspe River, about 9 km north-east of Rochester. The name, an Aboriginal word for a local creek, is thought to mean sandy creek. Formerly the Restdown Plains pastoral run, the district was opened for farm selection in the 1870s, and the Waranga Western Channel brought irrigation in 1909, followed by closer settlement. Dairying became the mainstay, with a cannery and cheese factory serving local farms.
