About Bamawm
Bamawm is a rural village in the Campaspe Shire of northern Victoria, about 30 kilometres south-east of Echuca and 17 kilometres north-west of Rochester. The name is thought to derive from an Aboriginal word meaning creek, the district being known as Pannoo Bamawm, or little creek. First settled as a dry farming area of plains and seasonal watercourses, Bamawm received irrigation from the Waranga Western Channel in 1909, turning the district to orcharding, dairying and vegetable growing. It shares a cricket club with the nearby town of Lockington.
