About Tyrrell Downs

Tyrrell Downs is a locality in the northern part of the Buloke Shire in the Mallee of north-western Victoria, bordering Lake Tyrrell, Victoria's largest salt lake. It takes its name from a pastoral run taken up in 1847, which was developed into one of the largest wheat farms in the world in the 1880s before being broken up for selection.
