About St Arnaud
St Arnaud is a town in the Wimmera region of Victoria, about 244 kilometres north-west of Melbourne, at the junction of the Sunraysia and Wimmera Highways. It began as a gold mining settlement in the mid-1850s and was named after a French marshal of the Crimean War. The town preserves many historic buildings along Napier Street, including the heritage-listed 1878 railway station, now an arts hub, and Pioneer Park, one of the few public parks designed by Edna Walling. St Arnaud Range National Park lies a short drive to the south.
