About Leitchville

Leitchville is a rural township in the Torrumbarry irrigation area of northern Victoria, on the Murray Valley Highway about 50 kilometres north-west of Echuca. The district was opened for farm selection in the 1870s and was named after Duncan Leitch, a manager of the Gunbower pastoral station. A dairy factory, later owned by Kraft and then Murray Goulburn, drove growth until its closure in 2010, and irrigation water is stored nearby at Kow Swamp.
