About Tootgarook
Tootgarook is a beachside suburb on the Mornington Peninsula in Melbourne, about 62 km south of the central business district, between Rosebud and Rye, facing Port Phillip Bay. The name, thought to be an Aboriginal word meaning 'croaking of frogs', comes from the Tootgarook pastoral run taken up in the 1830s, and the suburb grew after World War II as a seaside and camping resort. The nearby Tootgarook Wetland, about 300 hectares, supports rare and endangered species.
