About Boneo

Boneo is a rural locality on the Mornington Peninsula, about 65 km south of Melbourne in the Shire of Mornington Peninsula, south of Rosebud with Cape Schanck at its southern tip. Its name descends from an Aboriginal name recorded in 1841, and the district was among the peninsula's earliest pastoral runs, later becoming its first area extensively cleared for farming. Today Boneo Flats is market-garden and pasture country, while the eastern part holds Greens Bush, part of the Mornington Peninsula National Park and home to the largest population of eastern grey kangaroos on the peninsula. Boneo Park, an equestrian venue, protects much of the Tootgarook Wetland.
