About Laverton (Vic.)

Laverton is a suburb of Melbourne, Victoria, located 17 kilometres south-west of the central business district within the Cities of Hobsons Bay and Wyndham. Established in 1886, the suburb was home to RAAF Williams, the third-oldest Royal Australian Air Force base in Australia, established in 1926. The base was decommissioned in 1996 and the airfield site was subsequently developed into the new suburb of Williams Landing. Laverton is served by two stations on the Werribee railway line and is characterised by a mix of post-war housing and newer residential developments.
