About Tullamarine

Tullamarine is a suburb in Melbourne, about 14 km north-west of the central business district, within the Cities of Brimbank, Hume and Merri-bek. The name comes from Tullamareena, a Wurundjeri man, via the Tullamarine parish. The suburb was an agricultural township, chiefly producing hay and grazing, until the 1950s, and its western boundary is now Melbourne Airport, which opened there in 1970; the suburb's residential areas lie in a loop of the Moonee Ponds Creek.
