About Kalkallo
Kalkallo is an outer suburb of Melbourne in the City of Hume, Victoria, located 31 kilometres north of the Melbourne central business district. Situated on the Hume Freeway, the name originates from the Woiwurrung language though its meaning is obscure. During the 1850s gold rush the township boomed with seventeen accommodation houses, a police station, jail and courthouse. The Bald Hill volcano, north-west of the town centre, last erupted over a million years ago. Merri Creek runs through the suburb. Since the 2010s Melbourne urban growth boundary expansion, major developments including Merrifield, Cloverton and Kallo have been established.
