About Princes Hill

Princes Hill is an inner-city suburb of Melbourne, 3 km north of the CBD, bounded by Princes Park and the Melbourne General Cemetery. The suburb, named with the park after Queen Victoria's consort Prince Albert, was subdivided from Crown land in the 1870s, and its main development from the late 1870s to the 1910s produced a uniform streetscape of Victorian and Edwardian houses. The Inner Circle railway reached the area in 1888.
