About Carlton North
Carlton North is an inner-city suburb in Melbourne, Victoria, situated approximately 4 kilometres north of the Central Business District and divided between the Cities of Melbourne and Yarra. The suburb is home to the Melbourne General Cemetery, the graves of four Australian Prime Ministers and the tomb of explorers Burke and Wills, as well as Princes Park, home of the Carlton Football Club since 1864. Rathdowne Street forms the main commercial precinct with cafes, restaurants and independent retailers, while the suburb retains its Victorian and Edwardian terrace housing stock and the oldest mosque in Melbourne, built by the Albanian community in the 1960s.
