About Moonee Ponds

Moonee Ponds is an inner-city suburb about 7 km north-west of Melbourne in the City of Moonee Valley, centred on the junction of the main road to the Mount Alexander goldfields. Queens Park, established in the 1880s, is where the Burke and Wills expedition camped on the first night of its 1860 journey. The suburb is home to Moonee Valley Racecourse, whose W.S. Cox Plate has been won by champions including Phar Lap and Kingston Town, and the satirist Barry Humphries made the suburb famous as the home of his character Dame Edna Everage.
