About Balwyn
Balwyn is a suburb of Melbourne, about 10 kilometres east of the central business district, within the City of Boroondara. It began as an agricultural district in the 1850s, when journalist Andrew Murray named his estate Balwyn, combining Gaelic and Saxon words meaning 'home of the vine'. The village centre formed in the 1860s, and Balwyn is today almost entirely residential and one of Victoria's most affluent suburbs.
