About Warragul
Warragul is a town in the West Gippsland region of Victoria, about 102 km south-east of Melbourne, lying between the Strzelecki Ranges and the Mount Baw Baw plateau. It grew up around the railway station when the Gippsland line opened in 1878, its sawmills and later its dairy farms supplying Melbourne. The name comes from an Aboriginal word for a wild dog, and the town is the main service centre of the surrounding dairy district.
