About Suggan Buggan

Suggan Buggan is a locality in the Shire of East Gippsland, Victoria, on the border with New South Wales and surrounded by the Alpine National Park. Its name is said to derive from the Aboriginal phrase 'bukkan bukkan', meaning bags made from grass, and its traditional custodians are the Bidawal and Nindi-Ngudjam Ngarigu Monero peoples. A well-preserved 1860s wooden schoolhouse survives, and free camping is available on the Suggan Buggan River.
