About Mount Best
Mount Best is a rural locality and hilltop settlement in the South Gippsland region of Victoria, about 10 kilometres north of Foster, with views across to Wilsons Promontory. Land was taken up for selection in the 1890s, and the district was named in 1898 after Sir Robert Best, the Victorian Minister for Lands. The Mount Best community lost homes, its church and school in the Black Thursday bushfires of January 1906, and the present community hall dates from 1938. The Mount Best Lookout offers 360-degree views over Corner Inlet and the surrounding ranges.
