About Meerlieu
Meerlieu is a rural locality in the East Gippsland region of Victoria, approximately 30 kilometres north-west of Bairnsdale. The area is characterised by cattle grazing and mixed farming on the Red Gum Plains. The nearby Gippsland Lakes are a RAMSAR-listed wetland system, and the Ramahyuck Aboriginal mission operated at nearby Perry Bridge from the 1860s until 1908.
