About Howitt Plains
Howitt Plains is a locality in the Victorian Alps in the Gippsland region of Victoria, on the Howitt Road north of Licola. It takes its name from the high plains below Mount Howitt, a peak in the Alpine National Park that is a popular bushwalking destination reached via Macalister Springs and the Australian Alps Walking Track. The mountain is named after the explorer Alfred Howitt.
