About Hillside (East Gippsland - Vic.)
Hillside is a rural locality in East Gippsland, Victoria, about 12 km west of Bairnsdale. Small farms were established here from the late 1860s, and a hotel and school, the district originally known as Murmurng, followed in the 1870s. The district and its railway siding were renamed Hillside in 1889 when the estate of David Hill was subdivided for additional farms.
