About Hernes Oak

Hernes Oak is a rural locality in the Latrobe Valley, midway between Moe and Morwell in the Latrobe local government area. Originally called the Haunted Hills, it was renamed after Shakespeare's The Merry Wives of Windsor and grew as a brown coal mining community after the Yallourn mine commenced in 1918. The community was gradually acquired for coal mining from the late 1960s, with the school closing in 1975 and the last building demolished in the early 1990s, and it is now a quiet dormitory locality.
