About Briagolong
Briagolong is a town on Freestone Creek in the Shire of Wellington in Gippsland, Victoria, about 20 km north of Maffra, with the Great Dividing Range to the north. It adopted its name in 1873 from the Braiakaulung Aboriginal people of the district. The town grew from small-scale gold digging along the creek in the 1860s; today the creek offers the swimming spots of Quarry Reserve and Blue Pool, and the heritage-listed Mechanics' Institute of 1874 still stands.
