About Strath Creek
Strath Creek is a town in the Shire of Murrindindi in central Victoria, about 104 km north of Melbourne, on the creek of the same name. Explorers Hume and Hovell passed through the valley in 1824, and sheep runs were established from the late 1830s. Surveyed in 1880 as a township called Flowerdale, it was officially renamed Strath Creek in 1909. The district turned to sheep and wool after the local creamery closed, and it was badly affected by the 2009 Black Saturday bushfires.
