About Whittington
Whittington is a residential suburb of Geelong, about 4 km south-east of the city centre, on the route of the former Geelong-to-Queenscliff railway line, now the Bellarine Rail Trail. The area takes its name from the St Albans homestead, where trainer James Wilson prepared the mare Briseis for her 1876 wins in the VRC Derby, Melbourne Cup and VRC Oaks. Much of the suburb's housing dates from large Housing Commission developments of the 1960s.
