About Lorne (Vic.)

Lorne is a town on the Louttit Bay coastline of Victoria, in the Surf Coast Shire, about 57 kilometres south-west of Geelong on the Great Ocean Road. The first European settler was timber-cutter William Lindsay in 1849, and the town was subdivided from 1869 and named in 1871 after the Marquess of Lorne. Set where the Erskine River meets the sea, Lorne is a popular surfing and beach resort, with the Erskine Falls and the Great Otway National Park close by.
