About Herne Hill (Vic.)
Herne Hill is a residential suburb three kilometres northwest of central Geelong, Victoria. Possibly named after Herne Hill in England, the area's most notable early institution was the Geelong Protestant and Orphan Asylum, built in 1855 and now heritage listed. Suburban growth came after World War II, with schools opening in the mid-1950s.
