About Bannockburn (Vic.)

Bannockburn is a town in the Golden Plains Shire of Victoria, about 88 kilometres south-west of Melbourne. The township grew from the 1860s around the Leigh Road railway station on the Geelong to Ballarat line, later renamed Bannockburn in 1904, and developed as a commercial centre for the surrounding pastoral district. Its position on the trade route connecting the Ballarat goldfields with the port of Geelong supported at least five hotels during the mid-nineteenth century.
