About Tylden

Tylden is a town in central Victoria in the Shire of Macedon Ranges, 83 kilometres north-west of Melbourne between Kyneton and Woodend, on Dja Dja Wurrung country. A former mining township on the Little Coliban River, it was named after Brigadier-General William Tylden, who died in the Crimean War. The site of probably the first flour mill in the Kyneton district, built in 1841, Tylden had a railway station on the Daylesford line from 1880 until the line closed in 1978.
