About Amphitheatre
Amphitheatre is a town on the Pyrenees Highway in the Pyrenees Shire of Victoria, south-west of Avoca. The Avoca River rises near the town, at the foot of Mount Lonarch. Gold was discovered in the area in 1853, and a substantial mining rush in 1858-59 led to the establishment of the permanent settlement.
