About Arthur River (Tas.)

Arthur River is a small township on the northern West Coast of Tasmania, south of Marrawah, named for the river and in turn after Sir George Arthur, lieutenant governor of Van Diemen's Land. Once exploited for timber and fisheries, it is now a tourism base for bushwalking, fishing and four-wheel-driving. Near the river mouth a plaque marks the Edge of the World, where the coastline is lashed by gales of the Roaring Forties.
