About Alonnah
Alonnah is a small town and rural locality on the western side of Bruny Island, in the Kingborough municipality of Tasmania, facing the D'Entrecasteaux Channel and reached by ferry about 60 kilometres from Kingston. Originally called Mill's Reef, it was renamed in the early 1900s, along with its post office in 1909, after part of the Tasmanian Aboriginal name for Bruny Island, Lunawanna-alonnah; the township of Lunawanna a little to the south keeps the other half of the name. Alonnah is the island's administrative centre, with a post office, police station, primary school, health centre, museum and hotel.
