About Dilston
Dilston is a rural and residential locality on the East Tamar Highway in northern Tasmania, about 17 kilometres north of Launceston, with the Tamar River forming its western boundary. It grew from the riverside estate Dilston Lodge, established by Captain George Coulson in the 1830s, which became the Friends' Arms hotel and a stopping point on the road to George Town. The area later supported brickmaking from local clay and coal, and the East Tamar Regatta was inaugurated here in 1865.
