About Avoca (Tas.)
Avoca is a historic farming community in the Fingal Valley of Tasmania, in the Northern Midlands municipality, at the junction of the St Paul's and South Esk rivers. Settled in the 1830s as St Paul's Plains, it became a village supporting agriculture and coal and tin mining. Its heritage buildings include St Thomas' Anglican Church, designed by James Blackburn and consecrated in 1842, and the former state school now houses the Avoca Museum and Information Centre.
