About Alberton (Tas.)
Alberton is a rural locality in the Dorset local government area of north-eastern Tasmania, about 37 kilometres south-east of Scottsdale. It was once the centre of the Mount Victoria goldfield, where more than a hundred gold-bearing lodes were worked between 1883 and 1940 and the township peaked at around 800 residents in the mid-1880s. After the last mine closed the settlement was abandoned, and the area was gazetted as a locality in 1976.
