About Legerwood
Legerwood is a rural town in the north-east of Tasmania, about 24 km south-east of Scottsdale in the Dorset Council area, where the Ringarooma River forms the north-eastern boundary. Settled in the 1850s and once known as Ringarooma Road, it grew around the timber industry, and in 1921 was described as the busiest railway station on the North-eastern line. The town is known for its carved memorial trees: trees planted in 1918 to honour local men lost in the First World War were sculpted in 2004 into likenesses of the fallen.
