About Brighton (Tas.)
Brighton is a suburb on the Midland Highway about 27 kilometres north of Hobart, Tasmania, between the towns of Pontville and Bridgewater. From 1826 the area was the site of the Brighton Barracks, a military accommodation facility that remained in use until its land was sold for residential subdivision in the early 2000s. A Brighton post office opened in 1832, and the town now serves the surrounding rural district.
