About Waltowa

Waltowa is a rural locality in the South Australia South East region, located about 103 kilometres southeast of Adelaide on the eastern shore of Lake Albert about 10 kilometres north of Meningie in the Coorong District Council. The landscape is dominated by the Waltowa Wetland, a large shallow wetland on the eastern shore of Lake Albert featuring samphire shrublands. The area is within the Living Murray Lower Lakes, Coorong and Murray Mouth Icon Site and the Coorong and Lakes Alexandrina and Albert Ramsar wetland site. Traditional lands of the Ngarrindjeri Nation, environmental watering since 2005 has restored some bird habitat with 13 wader species observed.
