About Caroline
Caroline is a locality in the Australian state of South Australia located about 389 kilometres (242 mi) south-east of the state capital of Adelaide and about 12 kilometres (7.5 mi) southeast of the municipal seat of Mount Gambier adjoining the border with the state of Victoria. Boundaries for the locality were created on 31 October 1996 for the “long established name” which was derived from the cadastral unit of the Hundred of Caroline. A school which operated from 1913 to 1917 opened with the name ‘Caroline East School’ which was changed to ‘Summer Hill’ in the following year while another known as ‘Hundred of Caroline School’ operated from 1893 to 1944.
