About Alawoona
Alawoona is a town in the Murray Mallee region of South Australia, about 35 kilometres south of Loxton in the Loxton Waikerie council area. It began as a railway siding on the Barmera line built in 1906, later becoming a junction when the line to Loxton opened, and the town was surveyed in 1914. Its name comes from a local Aboriginal word for a place of hot winds, and its post office, opened in 1915, closed in 1988.
