About Farina
Farina, formerly Farina Town and originally Government Gums, is an abandoned town in the arid Lake Eyre basin of South Australia, 26 km north of Lyndhurst and 55 km south of Marree, where the Oodnadatta and Birdsville tracks begin. It was settled in 1878 and became a railhead on the Central Australia Railway in 1882; the line closed in 1958 and the town has been uninhabited since 1967. The Farina Restoration Group now runs volunteer camps to restore the town's buildings, including its historic bakery.
