About Elliston
Elliston is a small coastal town on the west coast of the Eyre Peninsula in South Australia, about 170 km north-west of Port Lincoln, set on Waterloo Bay behind a reef-lined entrance. Settled in the 1840s, it became the port from which early settlers shipped wool and wheat, despite the hazardous crossing of the bay's reefs. Planned and named by Governor Jervois in 1878, the town is now a centre for cereal growing, mixed farming and fishing, and is known for its rugged coastline and heritage-listed screw-pylon jetty.
