About Tanunda
Tanunda is a town in the Barossa Valley of South Australia, about 66 kilometres northeast of Adelaide. Its name derives from an Aboriginal word meaning "water hole." Established around 1848 from Prussian Lutheran settlements, it lies among renowned vineyards in one of Australia's premier wine regions. Turkey Flat holds Shiraz vines planted in 1847, among the world's oldest. The town retains strong German heritage, home to the Tanunda Liedertafel male choir and the Tanunda Town Band, the oldest brass band in the Southern Hemisphere.
