About Spalding (SA)
Spalding is a town in the Mid North of South Australia, north of the Clare Valley. The surrounding district was opened to farmers in 1869 after earlier sheep runs, and the town was laid out by early settler W. E. Lunn, who named it after his birthplace of Spalding in Lincolnshire. It serves as a farming centre and is home to a slate quarry.
