About Penwortham
Penwortham is a small town in the Clare Valley of South Australia, on the Horrocks Highway about 10 km south of Clare. It was founded in 1839 by settler and explorer John Horrocks, who established his Hope Farm and built the first stone cottages. By 1846 the village had a general store, butcher, tailor, school and blacksmith, and St Mark's Anglican Church was built between 1851 and 1855.
