About Hawthorndene
Hawthorndene is a suburb in the foothills of the Mount Lofty Ranges in south-east Adelaide, in the City of Mitcham beside Blackwood. Its name refers to the hawthorn bushes that grew along Minno Creek, washed down from Belair National Park, and the suburb was officially known by the awkward form Hawthodene until 1959. Much of the area was a government experimental orchard from 1908 and is now the Blackwood Forest Recreation Park.
