About Cherry Gardens
Cherry Gardens is a semi-rural suburb in the southern Adelaide Hills within the City of Onkaparinga, about 22 kilometres south of the Adelaide city centre. The area was named for native cherry trees (Exocarpos cupressiformis) that grew in abundance when settlers arrived in the late 1830s. South Australia's oldest surviving Methodist chapel south of Adelaide was built on donated land in 1849, and the suburb retains a quiet village-like character amid bushland.
