About Munno Para
Munno Para is a suburb in the City of Playford, South Australia, situated approximately 32 kilometres north of the Adelaide central business district. The name derives from the Kaurna Aboriginal language, meaning "golden wattle creek," referring to either the Gawler River or the Little Para River. Governor Frederick Robe assigned the name to the cadastral Hundred of Munno Para in 1846. Prior to urbanisation beginning in 1955, the area was predominantly farmland north of Smithfield, with the suburb formally named in 1978. The suburb lies astride the Gawler railway line, served by Munno Para railway station, and is traversed by Main North Road. Its flat terrain features a linear park through the older residential section and landscaped stormwater wetlands in newer developments, with the North Lakes golf course in the northwest.
