About Meadows
Meadows is a town in the Adelaide Hills of South Australia, about 40 km south of Adelaide, originally known as Battunga, an Aboriginal name meaning place of big trees, and the surrounding district is still known as Battunga country. Settled in the late 1830s in part by German Lutheran families, it grew on grain growing and flour and timber milling, and Antarctic explorer Sir Douglas Mawson ran a farm and timber mill nearby. The high street is named Mawson Road in his honour.
