About Chain Of Ponds

Chain of Ponds is a locality and former township in the Adelaide Hills of South Australia, about 29 kilometres north-east of Adelaide along the Adelaide Mannum Road. Originally called Philptown after founding publican Oliver Philp, the settlement was established by the South Australian Company in the 1840s and renamed in 1864 after a series of connected natural waterholes. The town was demolished in the 1970s to safeguard the adjacent Millbrook Reservoir, and little more than a cemetery remains.
